About This Game

A two-game bundle pairing Scribblenauts Unlimited with Scribblenauts Unmasked, a DC Comics adventure. Kids solve puzzles by typing words to summon nearly any object they can imagine, then tweak those objects with adjectives to earn Starites. A built-in editor lets players build and customise their own items and superheroes, and a second player can drop into local co-op at any time.

Negatives

  • •Progress depends heavily on reading and typing, which can frustrate younger or struggling readers.
  • •Players can upload their creations online and download other people's objects, so shared user-made content is worth a look now and then.
  • •The DC Comics half includes cartoon superhero brawls against villains, so mild fantasy action is present.
  • •Online features mean a console with internet access is needed for the sharing side of the game.

Positives

  • •Typing words to summon objects builds vocabulary, spelling and reading confidence in a playful way.
  • •Puzzles accept many different solutions, so kids practise flexible, strategic thinking rather than memorising one answer.
  • •Deep creation tools let kids build, colour and script their own objects, items and superheroes from scratch.
  • •Local two-player co-op lets a sibling or parent jump in and take control of anything on screen.
  • •One-time purchase with no in-game purchases, loot boxes, energy timers or daily login pressure.
